TRiO Program
The TRiO Program is a component of the Educational Opportunities Program (EOP) that is funded through the U.S. Department of Education. This program provides individual support to students who are low-income, first generation, and/or disabled.
The purpose of the TRiO program is to increase college retention and graduation rates for eligible students, and to foster a supportive climate for low-income and first generation college students and students with disabilities. Benefits provided may include:
- professional mentoring
- individualized tutoring and counseling
- study skill enhancement
- cultural activities
- career counseling
- leadership development training
Admission into the program is by application and is an ongoing process. Services will be provided as soon as a student is accepted into the program. Since TRiO is a federally funded program, services are provided at no cost to eligible students. If you have questions or would like to apply for admission, please contact the office at 618-985-3741, Ext. 8289 or click the link below to go to a TRiO application. Workshops and Cultural Activities
The Student Success Center sponsors a variety of workshops and cultural activities designed to help students with specific problems and to enhance their college experience. | Spring Break Day Trip | Thursday, March 14th | Trip to St. Louis Science Center and area museums. All expenses and transportation covered by the TRiO Program. Departure from JALC 8:00am and return 7:00pm. |
| Summer/Fall Advisement | April 1, 2013 | Call or stop by the Student Success Center to make your advisement appointment if you are a TRiO Student beginning on March 25, 2013. |
| SIU Transfer Day | April 12, 2013 | Take advantage of a day that is dedicated to meeting the questions/concerns of a transfer student. We will be taking a group of TRiO Students on this day to take tours and speak to representatives. 8:30am to 3:00pm. ANY TRiO STUDENT THAT ATTENDS WILL RECEIVE A TICKET TO SEE THE PERFORMANCE STOMP AT SHYROCK THAT EVENING. Contact Nikki Brooks, (ext. 8410) to rsvp to this event. |
| STOMP Performance | April 12, 2013 | A ticket to this performance at Shyrock will be given to any TRiO Student that attended the SIU Transfer Day. |
| Spotlight on the Student | May 3, 2013 (11:30am to 2:00pm) | This is an event that recognizes the accomplishments of a TRiO Student. This event will include a catered lunch and recognition of accomplishments. It is by invitation only based on certain requirements. |
| Finals Week Survival Kits | May 9-15, 2013 | Finals time can be very stressful. We have filled kits with items that can be useful during that time. Make sure to stop by the Student Success Center office to pick yours up. We will have a limited supply, so first come!! |
| Anything Goes Performance | Thursday, May 30, 2013 | The TRiO program will be travelling to the fabulous Fox Theater in St. Louis to view this performance. We will be having dinner at a local establishment prior to the show. All expenses are provided by the program. |
